Awaken your senses through self hypnosis

The modern world has brought people a lot of preoccupation. It made living faster yet complicated, it made interactions wider yet shorter, and it made communication easier yet brief. Despite the so many preoccupations brought by media created by people, there are also those who would want to get back to their original self and connect with it in the most basic possible means. One of these is self hypnosis. Defined as a “process involving a hypnotist and a subject who agrees to be hypnotized,” self hypnosis is characterized by intense concentration, extreme relaxation, and high suggestibility to both parties.

What are the steps for Self Hypnosis?

By Brad Greentree | February 20, 2009

1. Find a comfortable, quiet and private place and sit upright in a comfortable chair or couch. Do not lie down as it’s important you don’t go to sleep. Make sure you do not cross any part of your body. You will be in this position for up to 30-60min and this could end up being uncomfortable.

2. Make sure you are not going to be disturbed during your Self Hypnosis.

3. Close your eyes and work to rid your mind of any thoughts, you might find it difficult not to think. Direct your focus onto your right hand or imagine seeing yourself looking at your right hand.

4. Acknowledge your body, beginning with your toes. Imagine the tension slowly lifting up and away from your body and vanishing. Imagine freeing the tension from each body part one at a time starting with your toes and working its way up your body. Imagine each part of your body becoming lighter and lighter as the tension is removed. Relax your toes, then your feet. Continue by moving the relaxation up through your body your calves, thighs, hips, stomach and then the middle of your back, until you’ve relaxed each portion, including your face and head. Using imagery techniques of something you find comforting or soothing, such as water (feel the water rushing over your feet and ankles, cleansing them of tension) can be effective as well. Or a hoop like item spinning around each part of your body drawing any tension out of your body and leaving that part of your body just like it has been massaged.

How do you use Self Hypnosis?

By Brad Greentree | February 11, 2009

Self Hypnosis can be a very useful form dealing with everything from nail biting to anxiety. It’s a process of taking yourself into a hypnotic state and arranging your unconscious mind to focus on what you want. Whether it be maintaining calmness during your working day to reduce stress or creating more energy, self hypnosis will give you a head start in maintaining direction towards what you want.

So how do you hypnotise yourself and use Self Hypnosis? There are a number of ways to take yourself into hypnosis. It is best that you learn how to go into hypnosis with someone leading you first. After you have learnt and know the feeling and the state, it is easier to go back to that state.

To take yourself into a hypnotic state requires some focus. One way of taking yourself into a hypnotic state is to do the following:

Make yourself comfortable in a sitting chair, lift your right arm up above shoulder level. Say to yourself on the count of three I will drop my arm to my lap, the moment it hits my lap I will go into a relaxed state. After that focus on your breath and with each breath allow yourself to relax twice as deep with each breath out. Do this for about 5min. It’s best to set an alarm so that when it goes off you know you are in self hypnosis. I would suggest it is a soft alarm! At this point you can visualise the outcome of what you want to achieve and say out loud what it is that you want. Remember to use positive language making sure the end picture is what you want.

What is Self Hypnosis

By Brad Greentree | February 11, 2009

For many years self hypnosis was not thought of being something that anyone could do. In fact most people do not believe that self hypnosis was something that you could do yourself. However the very basis of hypnosis is that all hypnosis is self hypnosis. So what is self hypnosis? Well hypnosis is a very relaxed state of mind that can be reached by focusing on a single point or by having a relaxed posture and concentrating on your breathing. In most cases leading someone into hypnosis is done with language, soft tone and utilising the surrounding environment. If can also be done with a physical shift that can create a rapid induction. Again all this can be achieved with self once it has been set up correctly. Once in a hypnotic state you or your hypnotherapist can communicate directly with your unconscious mind to give suggestions on what it is that you are looking at improving or changing.

Fact is you go through the hypnotic state at least twice a day, once just before you wake up and once just before you go to sleep each night. So it’s just a matter of finding out how best to do it with yourself. Hypnosis is a normal natural state of mind. It feels very relaxing and after a good session of 40min you feel very relaxed and rested. With self hypnosis the skill is in not falling asleep!

Once you have yourself in that relaxed hypnotic state it is a process of setting up an internal representation of what it is that you want to be or achieving. If it is pain control then you will need to imagine your hand being put into a bucket of ice and the coolness moving up from your fingers at the same time you are telling yourself that your hand is totally numb and totally, repeatedly.
Once this has been achieved you can move that coolness or numbness to the part of your body needing the pain control. That is ideal for that dentist appointment you have been dreading and has even worked for women in labour!
